Romanesque Art Centre :

The Auvergne and the Massif Central have one of the richest Romanesque heritages in France: monuments, sculptures, and frescoes. The five major churches of Saint-Nectaire, Orcival, Saint-Austremoine in Issoire and Notre-Dame-du-Port in Clermont-Ferrand (Unesco world heritage) are the focus of international interest.
To illustrate the dominant role played by Clermont-Ferrand in the historical development of medieval art, the Tourist Office proposes an exceptional display of Romanesque Art in the Tourist Information Centre.
The richness and diversity of Romanesque art can be displayed in many ways. Therefore, l’Espace Art Roman proposes temporary exhibitions devoted to the study of precise aspects of the Romanesque period.
Audio-guides are available in english.

musée Bargoin

BARGOIN MUSEUM

Two museums were generously donated by two citizens of Clermont-Ferrand, and are named after them: Henri Lecoq and Jean-Baptiste Bargoin.
In the Henri-Lecoq Natural History Museum, where Lecoq once lived, we can find collections of mineralogy, zoology, palaeontology and geology.
In the Bargoin Museum there are two departments: the archaeological department with collections of items found in the region dating back to prehistory, protohistory and the Gallo-Roman era: the plaques from the Sources des Roches are unique in Europe. As well as in the Carpet and Textile Art department which has permanent and temporary displays of high-quality items.

musée Roger Quilliot

The Roger-Quilliot Art Museum :

On the site of the former Ursulines convent dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, architects Adrien and Claude Gaillard designed a museum with the aim of providing natural light to enhance the town’s collections of paintings, sculptures, furniture and objets d’art. Around a vast atrium designed by Peter Rice, there are more than 1,500 works of art, from the early Middle Ages to the 20th century. A shallow ramp provides easy access to the exhibition areas, allowing visitors to view the works to their best advantage.
